The third futureDESIGN Roadshow, organized at IIT Delhi under SemiconIndia’s Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, provided a vibrant platform to spotlight India’s burgeoning semiconductor chip design ecosystem. With the esteemed presence of Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Electronics & IT, the event underscored the current opportune moment for entry into India’s semiconductor sector. Despite acknowledged challenges, such as those faced by startups, Chandrasekhar emphasized the growing number of semiconductor startups in India, signaling a ripe environment for innovation and growth.

Mohit Bhatnagar from Sequoia Capital India echoed this sentiment, portraying the present as a pivotal juncture for the Indian semiconductor industry. With a substantial pool of design engineers in the country, Bhatnagar highlighted the potential for significant advancements and contributions to the global semiconductor landscape. Anandamoy Roychowdhary of Sequoia further elucidated their investments, particularly in initiatives like the Shakti processor project at IIT Madras, showcasing the firm’s commitment to fostering indigenous semiconductor innovations.

The event also served as a platform for startups like EdgeQ and SiMa.ai to showcase their cutting-edge chip and software solutions. Panel discussions explored crucial topics such as integrating startups into the Indian ecosystem, attracting venture capital investment, and navigating the complex landscape for semiconductor startups in India. Overall, the roadshow highlighted the promising trajectory and innovation potential within India’s semiconductor industry, buoyed by government support and a burgeoning startup ecosystem poised for exponential growth.
